There's a couple of interesting bits with Illyria and Spike and Wes.
One is just Spike and Illyria in Spike:After the Fall - which I found interesting - because it brings back memories of Buffy and her relationships with both Angel and Spike on the tv series.
Spike tells Illyria to help Jeremy, and she kills him. He's horrified and the demon next to him taunts him with it. Jeremy who he cared for and who Illyria as Fred cared for. It's when he realizes Illyria is not Fred.
Then there's the scene in which Wes leaves towards the end of issue 16, Wes says clearly, that he'd tell Spike to watch over their mutual friend but he knows he doesn't have to, and he'll watch her as well - they both will in a matter of speaking. Illyria - after the time reset, is more human, and self-hating. "He's in my head. I can't get him out , still. It's her. She was his light and I'll killed her."
Spike, I think, in an odd way identifies with Illyria/Fred. Illyria has said in different issues that Fred or the persona that was Fred fights her whenever she sees people Fred cared for.
