I like this option better than the "she's under a spell/mystical roofie/stuck in a nightmare" scenario. It has a certain symmetry, given to her long obsession with souls. However, her present behavior would lend credence to her former belief in the importance of souls, while I am more interested in expectations being turned on their head, which is what drew me to BtVS from the very first scene. *iz picky*
