I think that's the only way to look at it. This is not Spike's Buffy, so why should he care if she dumps him for Angel? Why should any of us? He's better off without her if this is what she's turned into.
Not that I won't keep reading about them, and writing about them, but my characters aren't going to resemble Joss's. Not anymore.
