I thought that was Spike being Spike. He always runs over the Sunnydale sign when he's driving. What's he to do now that he's flying a spaceship when he arrives in jolly ole? He hits part of Big Ben. :D

I thought it was one of those moments where he caused property damage but in the way of stories, no one got hurt. It was just his character being outrageous.
