For me, there needs to be an in-story confirmation from a character. Sure, Angel comments that he's talking funny, but that action in and of itself would suggest it's a straight-up storyline because he's able to tell the difference unless he's breaking the fourth wall. I need Willow or Giles to say they're acting weird. Something.
We've been baited with the "This is just too ridiculous to be believable" thing before and it turned out we were supposed to believe it. Just about every arc comes with its own WTF moment and all we get from the PTB is confirmation they're in character. I guess my cynicism has just taken over in regards to all this because I need for them to straight-up tell me before I'll believe it completely.
And agree there could be more awakening in a few issues.
I'd bet on it. My guess is 39. Spike showing up is just the start of reality pushing in, I believe. Buffy's suspicion of him might be her subconscious taking a stand against this.
I still think the first dream plays a part. Look at the Ethan stuff from that dream. We have an Englishman calling her pet, lamb, my love--Spike words for her. Ethan and Spike are also dressed similarly, both come with exposition and both lead Buffy underground. To me, that's a whole lot of coincidence. Even in the previous issue we have Buffy falling out of the castle wishing she wouldn't fall. The dragon catches her, but she's a puppet caught in the dragon's grasp. Sounds kind of like what we've been seeing with her being able to fly, but now appears to be being controlled.

Sorry, got my ramble on there.
