It wasn't my intention to compare Xander and Angel at all. I was just trying to make a separate point about Xander because it wasn't discussed in the initial notes. I love Xander and he's always been one of my favourites, but I do find his attitude towards Angel to be disconcerting.
It's not his view of vampires that I have many issues with. As I said, Giles also tells Buffy it's her duty to kill Angel and that he has to be an animal (prior to learning about the soul). I have no problem with that and at this point in the series neither know any better. It's that Xander gets a lot of happiness out of the idea of killing him and pushes Buffy into doing it for all the wrong reasons. He wants to remove the competition so he can have Buffy all to himself. Xander hated Angel long before he knew he was a vampire so I see it as pretty dark that he's so happy to have him killed. There's a pretty fine line between killing a vampire because it's your duty and killing them because you enjoy it, as we'll see more with Faith.
