Good points all. Partly I haven't watched many of these episodes in some time, and wasn't looking for too much daddy issues subtext when I last watched them, and so maybe don't know entirely what I'm talking about. (The ice skating thing, for example, is maybe me rewriting WML as Helpless.) I'm rewatching the series and carefully as part of doing the notes, so maybe I'll figure out exactly where I stand then.
I do think still that Buffy infantalizes herself highly at her "Buffy + Angel 4 eva" stage in late season three, between roughly Enemies and Graduation Day.
