On Angel and CPR -- it's one of those places where carelessness about detail is a problem. It makes no sense, in-story. But poetically, the dead man can't give life; only the living man can do that. So I just read it as the latter.
You're probably right about the prophecy -- though as I say, it works nicely as foreshadowing for season 2.
